Did Odyssues Bring The Trouble :: essays research papers
Did Odysseus and his men bring the string of catastrophes on themselves? Yes, they did get themselves into serious trouble. With a pompous attitude, the men prolonged their journey home to Ithaca. Those who did not have Odysseus’s smarts, died because of this. When they raided the Cicones’ village, harassed Poseidon’s son, and killed the Helios’s cattle, they punished themselves. Ã Ã Ã Ã Ã Odysseus and his men stormed Cicones, and reeked havoc on all that lived there, even the sheep. They killed men who fought, robbed the citizens, and enslaved the women, and slaughtered the livestock, before dividing the loot between them. But this was a fatal mistake, for the Cicones had a great and powerful army. Odysseus’s shipmates fought a hard battle, but were defeated in the end. Many of their lives were lost. “Six benches were left empty in every ship';. Their selfishness cost them friends and shipmates, and made their attempt to get home, even more difficult. Ã Ã Ã Ã Ã After stabbing Polyphemus in his eye and blinding him, Odysseus provoked and harassed the Cyclops, which angered him immensely. “ Cyclops, if ever mortal man inquire how you were put to shame and blinded, tell him Odysseus, raider of cities, took your eye: Laertes’ son whose home’s on Ithaca';, shouted Odysseus to the crippled Polyphemus, which was not very smart. If Odysseus had not told the Cyclops this incriminating information, he would have had a much safer journey. Polyphemus begged his father Poseidon, god of earthquake, to curse Odysseus. The Cyclops cried out to his father to prevent Odysseus from returning home, and pleaded with him to let Odysseus lose his companions. Ã Ã Ã Ã Ã Circe and Tiresias warned Odysseus and his men that it would be disastrous if the sun god’s cattle were harmed. Odysseus urged his men, who were fatigued, to avoid the island of the sun god, Thrinacia. Instead of heeding this warning the men landed on the island, but only after Odysseus made them swear not to touch the cattle. On the island, they did not just touch the cattle, they made a meal of them. Helios, the sun god, was infuriated, and he asked for restitution from Zeus. As a punishment for their crimes, the ruler of all gods threw down a bolt of hot lighting and destroyed Odysseus’s ships.

How to Stop Worrying and Start Living – Book Review
Notes on Author: Dale Breckenridge Carnegie (November 24, 1888 ââ¬â November 1, 1955) was an American writer, lecturer, and the developer of famous courses in self-improvement, salesmanship, corporate training, public speaking, and interpersonal skills. About the Book: The book is a compilation of Dale Carnegie and his studentsââ¬â¢ experiences in facing the problems and how they have come out of the depression by conquering worry. He tells us how and why to not worry about criticism, six ways to prevent fatigue and worry from keeping your energy levels. He also includes few experiences of some inspiring personalities. In this book Carnegie discusses how to analyze your worries and how to solve problems without worry. He discusses the negative effects of worry to your health and your success. He teaches how to break the worry habit, seven ways to cultivate a mental attitude that can bring you peace and happiness and a ââ¬Å"perfect wayâ⬠to conquer worry. This book is very readable and well organized. It is written so that even a school-going kid could easily understand it. This book has suggestions at the end of each chapter summarizing the material and telling the reader how to apply it. It gives simple ideas which can make a difference in our lives. It has good, positive and powerful ideas which help us to overcome the difficulties and face the problems boldly. What I learnt from the book: â⬠¢ If you want to avoid worry live in ââ¬Å"day tight compartmentsâ⬠. When our mind is occupied with work, we wonââ¬â¢t have time to worry. It applies not only to worry, but to all kinds of negative thoughts as well. We will greatly decrease their influence if we are busy doing something constructive. â⬠¢ We should know how to analyze and solve worry problems. We can do that by finding and collecting all the facts, analyzing those facts, making a decision, and act on it. â⬠¢ Count your blessings, not your troubles. If we want to be happy, we should focus on all the things that work well in our life and forget the other things that donââ¬â¢t. â⬠¢ One of the best ways to increase your productivity is to take rest regularly. Take rest before you feel tired. Doing this simple thing will energize yourself throughout the day and enable you to accomplish more. â⬠¢ One of the best teachers is your own experience. You can learn from it by taking notes of the fool things you have done and criticize yourself. If you constantly do this, you will constantly improve yourself. â⬠¢ We should not worry about what other people say about whether or not we have done our best. Once we have done our best, we can be happy no matter what people say. â⬠¢ Often we arenââ¬â¢t happy because we try to change things we canââ¬â¢t change. We should learn to identify those things and accept them.

Haier
MGF 403 Assignment 4 Was Haierââ¬â¢s decision to globalize into developed markets early on a good strategy? Haier focus on difficult market first. In this context, difficult means developed and big for the market ,for example, Europe and United States markets . Zhang decides to aim for harder market first because he thinks that after Haier can conquer the developed market, the emerging or developing market should be relatively easy to penetrate. Besides, a lot of other Chinese firms is going towards the emerging markets such as Southeast Asia. Therefore, Haier has a different management in not doing what others do. It is a good thing that Haier distribute niche products and offer many different varieties in different markets with being responsive towards customers need and feedback. In this case, Haier learns in getting to know how the market behaves as well as the competitors around. Unfortunately, there are a few weaknesses in this strategy. First of all, Haier could not be in th e scale as the other big competitors therefore Haier will not receive a large market share in developed markets.Plus, Haier in the developed market is very new and unknown by people. In addition, certain foreign markets perceive Chinese products, especially in household appliances and electronic devices, as a relatively poor quality products. This is the first impression held by most people. Can Haier build on its success in niche products to become a dominant global brand in high-end white goods? As long as Haier try to adapt their product into the current objective market, such as the water test in the washing machines, fridge temperature, and voltage, they can gain customer recognition and satisfaction. However, in order to introduce Haier products into high-end white goods can be relatively difficult because there are still many big local companies that has the trend design and are more recognized by the people in the society. Well, starting from a unique niche product is a very good start to differentiate Haier brand to the other and promote Haier to the society. With Haier brand sounds familiar already, Haier can gradually increase its sales. And from that point onwards, Haier can control and monitor its business. Having said that Haier can do well in the specified market such as the student and offices refrigerators ,but Haier will face hallenge in launching all its standard white goods considering the outside factors. Is Haierââ¬â¢s ââ¬Å"three thirdsâ⬠strategy a viable or visible approach? Haierââ¬â¢s ââ¬Å"three thirdâ⬠strategy comprises of one-third from goods produced and sold in China, one-third produced in China and sold overseas, and one-third produced and sold overseas. In order to analyze whether this strategy fits or not, we have to take a look at the market condition. If the objective market is a growing market, this strategy might apply well since we can monitor the allocation of resources and focus on important areas in the market. On the other hand, if the market that we choose is in mature stage, this strategy might not be a good option because the company will tend to focus on a certain area of the market and disregard the other. Additionally, if there is a market that outperform the other markets, the allocation of resources in the particular market will be given to the other lower market in order to achieve the equally one-third weighted goal among them. Therefore, the potential in getting more revenue at the outperforming market will be disrupted.

Miranda Decision essays
Miranda Decision essays This infamous Supreme Court case of 1966 deals with the rights of the accused, mainly with the Fifth Amendment right to not incriminate ones self. Ernest Miranda, a Mexican-American in his mid twenties at the time, was living in Phoenix working for a produce company when he was accused of raping and kidnapping an eighteen year old woman. At the time, rape was one of the most popular crimes in Phoenix, and because the womans description of her attacker fit Mirandas profile, he was arrested by Arizona police in his home and immediately taken to a local police station. Once there, Miranda was taken to an interrogation room, where he was questioned about the crimes. At first, Miranda pleaded his innocence, but after two hours of questioning, the police emerged from the room with a written and signed confession. At his trial, the written confession was admitted into evidence and Miranda was found guilty of the crime. The United States Supreme Court was then faced with Mirandas claim that the confession was self-incriminating and violated his Constitutional rights. The police admitted that at no time, either before or after the questioning had Miranda been informed of his right to consult an attorney before answering any questions, or his right to have an attorney present during the interrogation. The Supreme Courts job was to determine whether or not Mirandas Constitutional rights were breached. The Court ruled in favor of Miranda, 5 to 4, and stated that the questions answered during the interrogation must have been answered with the defendants knowledge of his rights. This meant that a testimony was only legitimate if proper procedure was followed. The decision of the Miranda case has changed the policies and proceedings of the police force in the United States to this day. The Supreme Court ruled that the Fifth Amendment right is active outside of the courtroom and pr ...

The Generalist vs. The Specialist
The Generalist vs. The Specialist The Generalist vs. The Specialist The Generalist vs. The Specialist By Colin One of the biggest problems facing modern day freelance writers is whether to spread out and write on a variety of subjects, or whether to specialise in markets they are able to ââ¬Å"expertâ⬠in. Itââ¬â¢s a problem both for established writers as well as those starting out, because while it may be the route to job satisfaction for one writer, it may also be the road to a life of boredom for another. One thing for certain is that both generalising and specialising have equal pros and cons, which should all be considered before attempting to switch from one to the other. A lot of writers choose to begin their careers by marketing themselves generally, and then making the gradual move to working in more specialised fields, but it is not uncommon for specialist writers to go in the other direction so they can broaden their portfolio, or if they have explored every avenue, to seek out new areas in which they may wish to specialise. In this article we will explore further the benefits to writing in both fields in more detail. The General Writer Writing general articles across a broad spectrum of subjects is an excellent way for new freelancers to gain experience. It allows for never ending opportunities in the type of work taken on, and it means the writer can spread their wings and try new things without the fear of restriction. It also means they can ditch what doesnââ¬â¢t work in favour of what does if they feel it isnt working out. Once a few writing gigs have been successfully completed, a new writerââ¬â¢s portfolio can quickly grow, and when the chance for higher paying gigs or the option of specialisation present themselves, the writer will have a healthy clippings folder from which to choose from in order to boost their chance at bagging their next big gig. Generalisation means a writer is totally unrestricted to most kinds of work other than, of course, specialised fields, and it also affords the writer an extremely enjoyable way to make a living. Moving from subject to subject, researching new and topics, and exploring new ideas, means every day in the freelancerââ¬â¢s life will never be dull. Itââ¬â¢s a marvelous way to meet new and interesting people, and to broaden oneââ¬â¢s horizons. This of course can present its own problems when it comes to the time it takes to carry out this research and turn articles around, so be wary of taking on new subjects under tight deadlines. And finally, after working within the general field of freelance writing a writer will discover exactly what subjects turn them on, and what ones hold them back. It is an excellent way of discovering what areas may be considered if a move to specialisation is favoured. Experiences gained writing generally can often help the writer decide which areas to specialise in at a future date. The Specialist Writer Specialist freelance writing calls for a different kind of writer, either one who already is a specialist in a particular field, maybe after having come to writing from another industry, or for those writers who have exhausted themselves generally and now wish to narrow the markets in which they write. Freelance writers who specialise are often able to create a niche for themselves within a particular market, which although may sound restrictive, can have many benefits. Among these is the opportunity to class yourself as an expert, meaning people, and more importantly editors, will take you more seriously. If an editor takes you seriously as a talented writer who knows a particular topic inside out, he or she is going to be more inclined to keep using you as a source of articles ââ¬â provided you meet their deadlines and publication requirements. This in turn means more work, and eventually, an ongoing relationship with an editor or publisher, which is something every freelance writer dreams of ââ¬â a steady source of income. Establishing yourself as a guru and making a name for yourself also opens up many doors when it comes to self-publicity. A successful freelance specialist writer can use this background to market him or herself through other websites of a similar nature, thus cementing their reputation. As with general freelance writing, specialisation also means a writer has a never ending source of markets to choose from. Where your career lies will depend on what your specialist knowledge is, so it is important to choose those subjects in which you know best, and feel you could talk about for hours on end. Some writers refuse to specialise citing the lack of exposure to new markets as their main foible, but for those who do, there are as many who say that writing in a field they feel passionate about gives them the opportunity to be able to expand even further on their knowledge. And for any specialist writer, the questions that must first be asked are; what do you know well, where do your main interests lie, and can you write about these things on an on-going basis and keep it interesting? No matter how you choose to further your career in freelance writing one thing is always certain ââ¬â itââ¬â¢s a fascinating and liberating way of life. Developing an Implementation Plan Research Paper
Developing an Implementation Plan - Research Paper Example Gaining Approval from Organizational Leaders So as to have a sound start to the problem analysis, the entire organization is to be working en masse aiming at elimination of the roots of the problem. Hence, for effectiveness of such a huge step, the Managing directors of the hospital are to be addressed through paper draft of the problem followed by detailed meetings that present the need to address this problem on humane level, and gaining their approval to make initiative for the change. Current Problem- A Comprehensive Insight A group of related concepts that are used to propose action that guide practice in any field including nursing is referred as a theory. A practical theory that can be applied in this concept is the Jean Watsonââ¬â¢s Theory of Caring. This theory is based on four main concepts which are identification of human beings, health, environment /society and nursing (Daniels, 2004). According to this theory the main concern of nursing is the promotion of health, pr evention of illness, caring for the sick and restoration of health to the patients regardless of their status in the society. As such even inmates are entitled to such a treatment as envisaged in this theory. The rationale for choosing this theory is based on the order of needs by Watson into biophysical needs, psychophysical needs and psychosocial needs even among prisoners. According to Kim & Kollak (2006) the Watsonââ¬â¢s theory of caring strives to depict, predict and explain nursing phenomenon based on relativity in providing appropriate care to patients. The foundations of nursing practice are provided by this theory through the recognition of the need rankings. This is in regard to the health care quality available for inmates while in incarceration. This shows the endeavour by the nurses to maintain professional borders and thereby enhance the quality and standards of health care to inmates. A good example is the requirement by the American Nurses Credentialing Centre (AN CC) for all nurse managers and leaders in facilities seeking accreditation have at the very least, a baccalaureate degree (ACCN, 2013). Endorsement of good health among prisoner population as for the general population is the prime objective of nursing. Perry J, et al., reported that prisoners have greater health needs owing to higher incidence of chronic disease. Generally, a prisoner possesses a vulnerable mindset due to myriad possible reasons such as unemployment, family disputes and abuse (physical, mental or sexual). The Offender Health and Social Care Strategy (DH2009a) set standards for offender health care stating that prisoners along with their families shall receive effective care and treatment equivalent to the general public. (Powell et al., 2010) comprehensively reviewed the dilemma of the prisoners from the eyes of the nursing staff. Various aspects were discussed and conclusions drawn from the results of the survey are that that a stable association between healthcar e managers and local National Health Service is required. The infrastructure of prisons and their security measures need strong collaboration with health care unit. (Powell, 2010) On the other hand, the education of the nurses has a very high impact on patient health and safety and is a major determining factor of nurseââ¬â¢s attitudes and actions. (Altmann et al., 2012) recently surveyed on the aforementioned line and found that nurseââ¬â¢

Dq-7.1-Terence Coursework Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1750 words
Dq-7.1-Terence - Coursework Example (1)What are the advantages? The new approach that many software developers are adapting today that entails parallel working among programmers has many advantages. Programmers that work in parallel when developing software can easily compare the algorithms they have concern the developments they are making. Making comparisons is important since it enables the programmers develop a system that is too fine enough to avoid minor breakdowns (Dingsà ¸yr, Nerur, & Moe, 2012). In the same way, this working model enables system developers to benefit from their colleagues in different ways. For example, one system developer can take advantage of his or her counterpartââ¬â¢s expertise. In this case, the less experienced worker is going to acquire tips and important knowledge from the colleague assigned to him/her. When programmers get to work in parallel, they save a lot of time for the organization they are serving. Instead of spending a lot of time working separately then combining their pieces of work later on, the programmers can just work together at the same time. The clients being served here are assured of being served instantly in some cases. Management of the software development program is also made easier by the approach of having parallel software developers. In this case, the supervisors of the projects are not compelled to supervise all the programmersââ¬â¢ work one after the other. The management of the project is always concerned about the quality of software that has been developed by the programming activity. There is little time that is spent on management of this activity when the process is done using the parallel approach (Ajimatanrareje, Shaw, & Pucci, 2014). The new approach of parallel working among software developers is important to any organization that is concerned about the software used I its operations. However, this approach may also have negative effects with the management is
